Empowering Women
Thomasina Tafur takes her business acumen and life experience of climbing the corporate ladder during her 20 years at FedEx Corporation, and uses it to empower women all over the world. She created her own consulting company where she advises women on how to create their own business, develop their own ideas or move up the corporate ladder. Thomasina also hosts her own radio show, “Tips to the Top,” where she interviews famous and high-profile corporate execs, entrepreneurs, politicos, and Hollywood personalities about their career journeys, broadcasting to 1.4 million listeners of the online network World Talk Radio.
Her areas of expertise stretch beyond supply chain and logistics, and include: corporate leadership, global communication, and negotiations. Besides helping individuals, Thomasina helps profit and non-profit organizations prepare their female leaders for greater roles. For example, Thomasina was instrumental in helping to create the first FedEx International Women’s Forum, whose mission was to empower women to take on greater leadership and decision making roles within the organization. Because of its success, the program was duplicated in other cities serving crowds of up to 500 people.
In addition to empowering women at FedEx, she mentored young female business majors at her alum, the University of Miami. As a give-back to her community, Thomasina currently mentors young mothers struggling to provide for their children at Sickle Cell for Families in Need (SCFFN).
Thomasina received her MBA in international business from the University of Miami, FL, and will complete her Executive Education Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business in April 2010. Thomasina thinks big and her future plans include beginning her doctorate degree in October 2010 with the International School of Management (France) with a concentration in women’s business issues.
Those who work with Thomasina usually say she’s focused, passionate, and determined. According to one 360 survey respondent, “Thomasina is an asset to any organization. She gets things done, is extremely insightful, and can relate well with people at different developmental levels. I would have her on my team anytime!”
In addition to her above skills and contributions, Thomasina has been featured in numerous articles and publications ( thomasinatafur.com/pressroom ) on topics from “starting your own home-based business” to “who makes the better boss: men or women?”
Thomasina is a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA), National Association of Female Executives (NAFE), eWomen Network, and The Common Wealth Club. She is on the Board of Directors for SCFFN and Alzheimer Day Services (ADS). Thomasina is passionate about charities and will do pro bono work.
